May the UAW 588 Hall Kitchen be always filled with good food, good friends, good times...!
Stove wall, south side of kitchen.

This is the south wall before the last section of range was removed and before the walls were painted and tiles repaired.

Helmut and Herta Erdmann

Herta and Helmut Erdmann worked side by side at the sinks washing all of the utensils before storing them in the new covered plastic bins now used in the pantry to keep items organized and clean.

Pantry reorganized.

The pantry was organized with over 20 clear plastic, covered bins to keep utensils, cups, plates and food stuffs together and clean.

Rennovation of the hall kitchen has finally been completed after three months of volunteer labor and many, many months of planning by the Local 588 board.

The hardest part of the rennovation was removing the 15' bank of ranges and ovens that were nearly 50 years old, dirty and obsolete. Removing the old ranges opened up the whole back wall for a beautiful, new, stainless steel, six burner professional stove, a new five foot tall warming oven and a large microwave table. The existing range exhaust hood was reworked to run more effectively and underneath the hood, new stainless steel shelves were fashioned from the old ones to provide lots of space for caterers.

Vice President Bill Jackson did much of the hands on work with help from other board members. Matching floor tiles were found to fill in where flooring was missing under the old equipment, walls were painted, and new wiring was installed all around the kitchen. An employee plumbing training class that had been training at the hall got practical plumbing experience replumbing some of the kitchen pipes.

Retirees Herta and Helmut Erdman and Dick and Barb Arthur also helped with the rennovation by cleaning and organizing the pantry, washing out the refrigerators and scrubbing down the sinks, tables and other kitchen accessories.

Bill's final touch to the kitchen was the creation of a one-of-a-kind UAW 588 lighted sign for the top of the glass double door refrigerator.

Bill Jackson and Dick Arthur shared artistic ideas on creating the UAW 588 sign that Bill built for the refrigerator. On the right side of the picture is the brand new five foot tall warming oven.

Barb Arthur at the prep table.

Barb Arthur got the honor of being the first to use the stove and prep table when she boiled hotdogs for the Retirees December monthly meeting. Notice the new stove in the background.

...and may every one who enters through the kitchen's doors remember to clean up, pick up and put away their mess!
