Ray Freeman inducted into Grundy County Speedway Hall of Fame
RETIREE RAY FREEMAN HONORED

Retired Blanker Operator Ray Freeman was honored in a ceremony at Grundy County Speedway Sunday, August 14, 2005 inducting him into the Grundy County Speedway's Hall of Fame. Ray began racing in the early 60's working out of his garage in Crete and racing at the O'Hare Stadium. He became a regular at the Wednesday night races at the Mazon Speedbowl and in 1963 he won the championship in the claiming division at Raceway Park. Moving up to Late Model division and racing the Me-2 numbered car, Ray had the honor of being the first driver to win a late model feature race at the then new Grundy County Speedway back in 1971. Old race fans might remember some of the other drivers he was inducted alongside, 'Big' Jim Anderson, Bill Barnes, Joe Birsa, Lou Cooper, Bob Dotter, Sr., Tink Durkee, Bob Hauck, 'Red' Herath, 'Bud' Koehler, Roy Koehler, 'Clem' Lewandowski, Howard Linne, Larry Morris, Bobby Shell, Bob Steffes, Jack Tyne, and Roger West. Ray now lives in Dover, AR.

Paula Brosseau's endloader. Two of the three Ford trucks used to upright the endloader.
Retired pipefitter Paula Brosseau proved that familiar Ford slogan, 'Built Ford Tough,' when she put three four-wheel drive Ford pickups to the task of uprighting an endloader that tipped over on her Kankakee property. Her son Sean Rose was driving the endloader when the machine's arm got stuck on some debris and tipped over. Sean jumped to safety and was unhurt. The trio of Ford pickups went on to other rough and rugged adventures.

One good motor home deserves another. Right is Dick and Barb Arthur's motorhome that they affectionately christened Betsy. This picture was taken at the Washington County Conservation Area near Nashville, IL. If you are looking for a quiet camping area on a small fishing lake not far from St. Louis, this is it! Andybill and Alyce Jarmon's Park Model.

Parked in the shade at a nearby campground (pictured left) is where you will find William 'Andybill' and Alyce Jarmon relaxing with their dog, Puppy. Andybill says that after one frustrating trip where their motorhome kept breaking down, they just parked it on the lot at the campground. He laughs when he recalls how the Retiree's Sergeant at Arms, Jim Winfree said, "Andybill has a PARK MODEL MOTORHOME. He drove it to the Yogi Bear campground at Plymouth, IN, parked it and it hasn't moved in 11 years!"
