Milton Weybright

Milton Weybright, 83, Momence, died Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. Mr. Weybright was a retired carpenter at the Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588.

He was born in Chicago, the son of Russell and Aspasia Weybright. He married his wife, Beverly in 1952 in Chicago.

He was a veteran of World War II where he drove LST landing craft at the Iwo Jima and Okinawa invasions. He was a member of the Momence Anchor club. He enjoyed boating and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandy Wojcik and Kathy and Don Brunnick, all of Momence; two sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Diana Weybright, Kankakee; Jack and Chris Weybright, Momence; one sister-in-law, Faye Weybright, Tinley Park; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one son, Rusty Weybright and one son-in- Stan Wojcik.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 29 at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence. Military Rites by the Momence Honor Guard concluded the service. Memorials may be made to the family''s wishes.


George A. Kollar

George A. Kollar, 60, a retired Tool and Die Maker at the Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588, passed away December 25, 2006. Memorial services were held Friday, December 29th, 2006, at the Kuiper Funeral Home, Highland, IN.

Mr. Kollar, was a resident of Griffith, IN. He was retired from Ford Motor Co. with 36 years of service. He had appreciation for nature, music and his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his daughters, Natalie Kollar and Gina Koller, his sons and daughter-in-law, George, Jr. and Catina Kollar; and John Kollar; six grandchildren, Anthony, Lauren, Ryan, Alexandra, Marley, and Benjamin; one sister, Marilyn Rosinko; one nephew, Rich; three nieces, Karen, Kim, and Carol; and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services were held on Friday, December 29th, 2006, at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd., Highland, IN.


Robert Clifford Irwin, Jr.

Robert Clifford Irwin Jr., 75, of Benton, TN, a former resident of Athens, TN, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in Bradley Health and Rehabilitation Center of Cleveland. Mr. Irwin was a retired employee of the Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588.

Visitation was held at the Jerry Smith Funeral Home, Athens with services on Friday, December 8 in the chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Oran Creasman officiated. Burial, with full graveside military honors, followed in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Mr. Irwin retired from Ford Motor Company after 32 years of service. He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and the son of Robert, Sr. and Georgia Irwin. He was a 32nd degree Mason and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Denise and Alan Doyle of Loganville, GA, and Chris Dockery of Etowah, TN; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Kyla Irwin of Bourbonnais, Rex Irwin of Dale, IN, Richard and Lou Ann Irwin of Bourbonnais; two stepdaughters and two stepsons-in-law, April and Kevin Grober of St. John, IN, Jamie Hedgecock of Columbus, GA, and Mark Greeno of Englewood, TN; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, June Baumgardner of Knoxville, TN, and Joann Keck of Blaine, TN; and one brother, Herbert "Tuck" Irwin of Blaine.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Dockery; one stepdaughter, Tammy Greeno; and one brother, Don Irwin.


R. "Kent" Bates

Rue "Kent" Bates, age 84, of Lake of the Four Season, IN, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2006. He was a retired press operator at the Ford Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Bill Gulley; his grandson, William Gulley, all of Lakes of the Four Seasons; and his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Ron Colbow of Marion, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rutherford and Margaret Bates; his son, Richard Bates, and his sister Naomi Bates Williams.

Mr. Bates was a member of the Church of the Lakes of the Four Seasons and sang in the Men's Choir and the Church Choir. He was very active and proud of his involvement in the Masonic Lodge serving as a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend, IN. He was a member of the Steel City DeMolay and served as Past Master of Roosevelt Lodge #715, a Past High Priest of the E. H. Gary Chapter #139 of Royal Arch Masons, a Past Illustrious Master of the E. H. Gary Council #103 of the Cryptic Masons, a Past Commander of the Gary York Rite Commandry #57, a Knight York Cross of Honor, Northwest Indiana York Rite Sovereign College, a charter member of the Yeoman of York, and a member of Orak Shrine and the Color Guard.

Visitation, including a Masonic service, was at Rees Funeral Home-Winfield Chapel. The funeral service was held Saturday, November 18; Reverend Chris Nunley officiated. Cremation followed with interment at the Four Seasons United Methodist Peace Memorial Garden.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Bates' name to the Four Seasons U.M.C. Choir Fund.


Dalton "Don" Gunter

Dalton "Don" Gunter of Portage, IN, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2006. Mr. Gunter was a retired parts and material handler at the Ford Motor Company Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588. He was 68.

Mr. Gunter was born in Arkansas, the son of Doss Austin and Ollie Mae Gunter. He loved to paint, to fish and to tinker fixing things. He loved to spend time with his family, to travel in his motor home and attend his grandchildrens' baseball games.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his sons, Ronald (Ellen) Gunter, Conroe, TX, Richard (Peggy) Gunter, Portage; his daughter, Deanna Gunter, Nashville, TX; his grandchildren, Jason, Sarah and Jeremy Gunter, all of Conroe, TX, Tiffany (Timothy) Lucas, Valparaiso, IN, Darell, Dominic and Amy Gunter, all of Portage; and his great-grandchildren, Ian Wood, Nicholas Lucas, and Ella Lucas, all of Valparaiso. He is also survived by his brothers, Eugene Gunter, Silver Springs, FL, Harvey (Janell) Gunter, Paragould, AR; and his sister, Dorothy Taylor, Paragould, AR; and other loving family and dear friends. Mr. Gunter was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Austin, Albert, Dee, and Conley Gunter.

Visitation for Mr. Gunter was held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 with a funeral service following at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. The Reverend Marie Lawrence officiated. Interment was at Tate's Chapel Cemetery in Galatia, IL. Memorials in Mr. Gunter's memory may be made to the Gunter Family. Phillip E. Pelham

Phillip E. Pelham, age 79, of Lowell, IN, passed away Monday, October 23, 2006. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Chicago Stamping Plant and was a member of UAW Local 588.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; three sons, Jerry R. (Marlene) Pelham of Oak Harbor, WA, David Pelham of Hobart, IN and Jim Pelham of Lowell; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur (Elsie) Pelham of Sumner, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, George, in 1976.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the Sheets Funeral Home, 604 E. Commercial Ave., Lowell with visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday. Pastor Kerry Robinson officiated. Burial followed at Orchard Grove Cemetery in Lowell.

Mr. Pelham was a member of the Lowell Nazarene Church and the former owner of Pelham Su Lawn in Lowell, IN.

Robert Schaefer

Robert L. Schaefer, age 54, passed away October 16, 2006, in Chicago Heights. He retired from Ford Motor Company Chicago Stamping Plant and was a member of UAW Local 588.

He is survived by his beloved wife Pamela, his loving daughters, Kimberly and Erin, his cherished grandchildren Emily, Connor, and Logan, his mother Barbara Schaefer, brother, Michael Mcaley, and sister, Barbara Sineni.

Mr.Schaefer was a member of the Park Forest American Legion.

Visitation was held at the Lain Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Westwood Dr., Park Forest, IL on Thursday, October 19, 2006 with a funeral service following. Norbert "Pat" Niemojuski

Norbert "Pat" Niemojuski, 78, retired tool and die leader on 17 and 18 lines and a member of UAW Local 588, passed away early Sunday morning, October 1, 2006. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 48 years, retiring in June, 2004.

Mr. Niemojuski was preceded in death two and a half years ago by his wife of 53 years, Bertha. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Warren Clausing, and their daughter, Kristen, with whom he lived following his wife's death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three older brothers. He is survived by three sisters.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Thornridge Funeral Home, Orland Park, IL. Visitation was held on October 5, 2006. Burial at Cedar Park Cemetery in Calumet Park, IL was private.


Ramon 'Ray' Plock

Ramon PlockRamon 'Ray' Plock, past president and bargaining committee chairman of UAW Local 588 and a retired tool and die maker at the Chicago Stamping Plant passed away mid September, 2006. Mr. Plock was also a district committeeman. He was elected to District Committeeperson in 1977 and served until 1983 when he was elected as the President and Bargaining Chairman. In 1985, he became an International Representative until he retired in 2002.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, October 22, 2006 in Carleton, MI.


Earl J. Dust

Earl J. Dust, age 70 of Chicago Heights, IL, passed away Friday, September 29, 2006. Mr. Dust drove the draw-die buggy at the Chicago Stamping Plant where he retired after 35 years. He was a member of UAW Local 588. In retirement, Mr. Dust enjoyed farming and caring for his farm animals.

He is survived by two children; Raymond (Brandy) Dust of Chicago Heights, and Tina (Derold) Greek of Manteno, IL; and five grandchildren, John, Michael, Ashley, Katy and Tyler. He is also survived by three brothers, Roy Dust, Eddie (Jerri) Dust and Clem (Kathy) Dust; two sisters, Elaine (Bob) Bohling and Bev (Rou) Fetech; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dust was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn in 1991; one brother, Harry (Terrie) Dust; and his parents, Florence and Raymond Dust.

The Fagen Miller Funeral home, 1920 Hart Street, Dyer, IN, handled the funeral arrangements with visitation held on Monday, October 2 and a service the next day. Joseph J. Bednar

Joseph J. Bednar, age 86, a retired automation electrician at the Chicago Stamping Plant and member of UAW Local 588 passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2006.

Mr. Bednar was a founding resident of Park Forest, IL formerly living in Roseland. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and longtime member of Good Sam Camping Club Chapter 19.

He was preceded in death by his son Dennis Bednar and, recently, by his wife of 65 years, Brunella "Bernie" on August 7, 2006.

He is survived by his son Douglas (Katherine) Bednar; his grandchildren, Robert, Brian (Carolyn) Bednar and Barbara Vetter. He is also survived by his sisters Jennie Ozog, Mary Paraziana, Lorraine Gilligan, and his brothers, Leonard and Raymond Bednarczyk.

Harry J. Bertram

Harry BertramHarry J. Bertram, 79, of Momence, died August 26, 2006 at his home. He was a retired automation tender at the Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588.

His wife, Mildred; his parents, Nesbit and Isabelle Bertram; and his step-son, John Raiolo, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his step-daughters Cleo Raiolo of Momence, Roseanne Tollerud of St. Paul, MN; one step-son Joseph Raiolo of St. Paul; three daughters, Sandra Locklear, Dorothy Bertram, and Harriet Maher, all of Florida; five grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, whom he raised, Sarah Raiolo of Momence; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six brothers, Delmar Bertram and Paul Bertram, both of Florida, John Keehn of Chebanse and Bud Bertram, Walter Bertram, and John Bertram, all of Louisiana; and nine sisters, Jeannie Archer and Suzie Witte, both of Florida, Stella Marsh, Kathy Vining, Betty Marrow, Margie Moss, Sharon Wakefield, Nancy Bertram and Carol Bertram, all of Louisiana.

Mr. Bertram was a veteran of World War II. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1942 until 1944 when he enlisted in the United States Army and served there until 1948. He was stationed in England and Germany.

Funeral services were arranged through Cotter Funeral Home in Momence where visitation was held on August 29 and services were held on August 30. The Rev. John Franklin officiated. Interment with military rites by the Momence Honor Guard was held graveside at St. Patrick Cemetery, Momence. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.


Arthur L. "Buttermilk" Douglas

Arthur DouglasArthur L. "Buttermilk" Douglas, South Bend, IN, a retired die setter at the Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.

Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur L. Sr. and Juanita Douglas; his son, Arthur L. Douglas III; his sister, Pamela Mitchell; and his brother, Robert Douglas.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Douglas; eight daughters, Joann Williams of South Bend, Charae (Robin) Anderson of CA, Julie Douglas of St. Louis, MO, Camille (William) Berry of Granger, IN, Jenice (Jeremy) Tavorn of South Bend, IN, Tiffany Douglas of Mishawaka, IN, Stacey and Joanna Douglas of AL; two sons, Jermaine (Latosha) Douglas of Detroit, MI, Bryan Douglas of South Bend; and 25 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Tillman (Cheri) Douglas of Ohio; three sisters, Sylvia (John) Douglas, Jean (Arthur) Moore, and Joanna Kendricks of CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Guy and Allen Funeral Directors, Inc. with visitation on August 28 at the chapel. Interment was at Evergreen Memorial Park.


Hershal Hall

Hershal Hall, retired from the Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588 passed away last year, August 16, 2005 in Scottsboro, AL. He was 75. Mr. Hall worked at the Stamping Plant in the garage detailing cars.


James Washington

James Washington, age 74, a retired salvage repairman at the Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588, died July 3, 2006. Funeral arrangements were made through the Holt Funeral Home, Harvey, IL (708-331-0310).


Sammie Stepp

Sammie Stepp, age 77, of DeMotte, IN, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 28, 2006. He was a retired cleaner at the Ford Motor Company Chicago Stamping Plant and a member of UAW Local 588.

He was born and raised in Salyersville, KY and married Jospehine Hale, who survives, in Rensselear, IN. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army, having been stationed in Korea. He was a member of the Wheatfield Pentecostal Church of God.

Mr. Stepp is survived by his wife, his sisters, Betty Pearson of LaPorte, IN, Pearl Ruth Oliver of LaPorte, IN, Mary Lou (David) Huskey of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Barbara (John) Blaha of San Pierre, IN; his brother, Danny (Maggie) Stepp of Valrico, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Brownlow Stepp; his mother, Minnie Stepp; three sisters and one brother.

Funeral arrangements were made at the Jackson Funeral Service of Wheatfield, 352 East South Street, Wheatfield, Indiana, with visitation on Friday, June 30, and funeral services at the Pentecostal Church of God, Wheatfield on Saturday, July 1, Pastor Eveston Risner officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer with Military Rites. Memorials may be made to the Wheatfield Pentecostal Church of God.
